Why ELD Compliance is Required

Why ELD Compliance is Required

FMCSA Expectations - Drivers must:

  • Log in and out of the app
  • Accurately track duty status
  • Certify logs daily
  • Submit logs during inspections

Non-compliance can result in:

  • Out-of-service orders
  • Fines ($7,000+ per violation)
  • CSA score impact (Compliance, Safety, Accountability score)
  • Legal penalties for both drivers and carriers

Sleeper Berth Rules & Exceptions

Sleeper Berth Rules and Exceptions

Sleeper Berth Rules:
  • Must take 10 consecutive hours off duty.
  • Can split into two periods:
    • • One period must be at least 7 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth.
    • • The other period must be at least 2 consecutive hours, either off-duty or in the sleeper berth.
  • The two periods must add up to at least 10 hours.
  • Neither period counts against the 14-hour driving window.
  • The 11-hour driving limit and 14-hour driving window are reset after the combined 10 hours.
  • Example: 7 hours in sleeper + 3 hours off-duty = 10 hours.
Important Notes:
  • Driver must be relieved of all duty and responsibility for the vehicle during both periods.
  • The sleeper berth must be a comfortable and safe place to rest.
  • The driver must not perform any work during the sleeper berth periods.
  • The driver must have access to food, water, and restroom facilities.
